Survey Responses

My research survey is on people's different perspectives on tattoos. Tattoo has been increasingly enters the mainstream culture. How do people really think of tattoos? Let's look at the results on my survey. Unfortunately i was only able to collect 9 responses. But that is good enough for me to analyze the results.
Attached is a screen shot of part of my results on the survey, I have 6 people who took this survey were between the age of 18-29, 3 people were between the age of 30-39 and none between the age of 14-18. Also 8 of them were female and only 1 male. Surprisingly there are only 3 out of 9 people in the survey owns tattoo(s). I have created some open-end questions in my survey and 8 people supported tattoo and said they have nothing against them and actually think they are very unique. The only one person who doesn't like tattoos was a 30s-year-old mother. One of her response to my question is "My feeling for tattoos are as follow. to each of his own. But if you could afford the most expensive car in the world, would you put a bumper sticker on it? i have seen some really bad tattoos and people stuck with them for life." This can explain why most teenagers under 18 don't have tattoos. Most of teenagers are inspire by artist who have tattoos from TV shows and wanting to get one. But they have to have parent's permission in order to get one since they are underage. We all know parents are very protective of their children and will most unlikely allow them to get a tattoo on their beautiful pure skin. People who are between the age of 18-29 in this survey think tattoos are a form of personal expression, beautiful art and very unique. As a result, i would say that this is a generation gap between parents and younger generations. During the time our parents were growing up, tattoos were almost exclusively seen on criminals and gang members. For the young generations, tattoos is a beauty of art and their personal expression. People appreciate tattoo art today than ever before.
This survey is a great success and i got all the data i need.

Reading Response #2

1. In this passage, Charlip uses quotes to quote what others wrote when and briefly summarized opinion from a sociology professor referring to the views of others. Signal phrases she uses included"Marz and Engels wrote:" and " the average American will tell you...". In the second paragraph, she uses " His definition:" in referring to the sociology professor's definition of the shrinking of the middle class. In the first paragraph, Charlip use "if only that were true," right after quoting what Marx and Engels wrote showing that she is not necessarily agreeing with the view from them. After she describes other's view, she uses signal phrases like "but i always felt ..." to distinguish her views from theirs.

2. For exercise 2, I'll use my last assignment the argumentative essay "Are Zoos Cruel?" as my study example. In my essay, I take position in disagreeing the statement 'Zoos are cruel.' There are only two perspectives i engage in this essay. Opponents think that zoo is to keep wild animals in enclosures that stop them from living their natural life. I'll disagree on that by proving that their argument is based on incomplete evidence and questionable assumptions. In order to prove that, i use signal phrase like 'Many argue.....But in fact, it is not true.." to distinguish my view. There are also many other voice-identifying devices use in the essay to clarify who is saying what. Like "X argue...", "According to ..." and " The evidence shows that...". Other option I can do is to embed a reference to other's argument in my own sentences. However, in my particular essay, using voice-identifying devices with most of the template the book offers is the best suited.

Ch 1 "They Say"

Exercises
1)
a. According to their experiments, there are dangerous levels of Chemical X in the Ohio groundwater.
b.Readers find that this novel has certain flaws.
c.It has become common today that females tend to think Football is so boring.
d. Professors observed that male students often dominate class discussions.
e. In their recent review, they argue that the film is really about the problems of romantic relationships.
f. They claim that the templates like the ones in this book will stifle their creativity.

2)
If ever there was an idea custom-made for a Jay Leno monologue, this was it: people that cheats on their exams to get better grades. Isn't that like stealing knowledge that doesn't belong to you and take credit for it? Whatever happened to academic honest and integrity?
I happen to sympathize with dishonest people like these ones, though, perhaps because they don't think they can just study hard like everyone else does and be smart which is pathetic.

Screenshot

This is a screenshot of my composion of replying my co-worker's message. I have been using screenshot since i start using a computer. Screenshot is to capture any active windows on your computer. It is a way of taking a picture or a snapshot of the computer screen. It's very interesting how what is active on your computer screen becomes a picture.

We normally see screenshots a lot in software tutorials to show how to perform a funtion. Also in technical supposrt helps in our computer to show how to solve issues. I use screenshots often when printing. Things don't always print out the way it looked on the computer screen when you hit the Print button from menu bar. Instead, I would do a screenshot of what i want to print and print the screenshot picture.

I find screenshot very useful and helpful. not everyone is a computer expert and a lot of thetime we can't demonstrate something on the computer that would be difficult to explain in words. Screenshot comes in handy when you are in this situation. We always say: " a picture is worth a thousand words."
